Directions
General Directions
The Helmholtz Institute Erlangen-Nürnberg is located on three sites: In Nürnberg „Auf AEG“ with the department "Dynamics of Complex Fluids and Interfaces". The departments of Prof. Wasserscheid "Chemical Hydrogen Storage", Prof. Mayrhofer "Electrocatalysis" and Prof. Thiele "Electrocatalytic Interface Engineering" are located in Erlangen, Egerlandstraße 3, directly on the campus of the Technical Faculty (Technische Fakultät) on the southern site of the FAU. Prof. Brabec's department is located at Immerwahrstraße 2 in Erlangen.
By plane
The closest Airport is the Albrecht Dürer Airport Nürnberg (NUE). A comfortable connection by train makes travelling via Frankfurt Airport (FRA) a viable option. A third option is to fly to Munich Airport (MUC) and then take a bus or train to Nürnberg/Erlangen (ca. 3 h).
By train
In Nürnberg and Erlangen trainlines of ICE (Intercity-Express), IC (InterCity) and RE (Regional-Express), RB (Regionalbahn) make stops. You can find a connection at reiseauskunft.bahn.de.
By car
The region can be reached from the direction of Berlin or Munich via Autobahn A9, from Stuttgart via A6 and from Frankfurt via A3.
By public transport
The online services of Verkehrsgroßraum Nürnberg (VGN) offer exact timetables and connections. You usually can buy your ticket from the bus driver or at the vending machines at larger stations (possibility to pay with credit card is not always given).

Leave the A73 at exit 33 („Erlangen-Bruck“), follow the B4 for 3.0 km, leave it to Kurt-Schumacher-Straße in direction Universität Südgelände, make a left into Erwin-Rommel-Straße, the next left is Egerlandstraße.
By public transport
The bus stop is called Technische Fakultät for lines 20, 280 and 287 or Erlangen Süd for lines 30, 290 and 295. Line 30 is a direct connection to the airport.

Leave the A73 at exit 39 („Nürnberg / Fürth“), follow the Fürther Straße in direction Nürnberg for 2.0 km. Fürther Str. 248 is located on the opposite side of the street. The entrance to our offices is via the inner courtyard, there is no entrance directly from the street.
By public transport
The next U-Bahn stop is Eberhardshof for lines U1 and U11.
