Research

My research focuses on the electrochemical reduction of CO2 to commodity chemicals for the chemical industry. Therefore, the dependency on fossil fuels can be mitigated by using this greenhouse gas as carbon source.

I have developed an electrolysis station and now use it to perform long-term electrochemical measurements, coupled to various analytical techniques to detect the reaction products. The gaseous products are analyzed using an online GC and the products in the liquid phase are quantified by further chromatographic techniques (HPLC, GC/MS, and IC). I am seeking for optimal conditions and materials for the efficient conversion of CO2 for an enhanced understanding of the reaction mechanism and the influence of selected parameters on the activity and selectivity of the reaction.
