Every two years the “Lange Nacht der Wissenschaften“, the long night of sciences, is held in Nuremberg, Fürth and Erlangen.
This year, on the 21st of October it’s hosted again. The “Lange Nacht der Wissenschaften” is a science fair where interested visitors have the possibility to attend experiments, lectures and shows presented by universities and actively researching companies.
This year you’ll be able to inform yourself about our institute at our booth and also participate in an experiment. You will find us in the Department of Chemical and Biological Engineering in the Cauerstraße 4 in Erlangen. Our scientists will give you an insight of our main research fields and show you which results and impressions you are able to win with a laser scanning microscope (further information).
With this microscope you don’t only look at the specimen through an ocular, it’s also possible to generate colorful 3D pictures of your sample in high resolution. Next to the image acquisition, different properties can be measured and compared. How rough is the surface of a metal or a foil? What does your hair look like when it’s 3000 times magnified? See the difference and try it yourself!

But that’s not all – You also have the possibility to see and get informed about Franconias’ first hydrogen powered fuel cell vehicle. The Toyota Mirai, our new company vehicle, will be parked in front of the entrance to the Cauerstraße 4. How does the engine or the power transmission work and what’s behind the research? Our employees will gladly answer your questions and give you a look into the future.
