I study the dynamics of droplets and solid particles in suspensions that contain free ions, part of a collection of phenomena referred to as electrokinetics. The ability to control flows via electric fields is key in many new technologies, from lab-on-a-chip devices to medical drug delivery systems. Here we have developed a numerical method combining the lattice-Boltzmann method, molecular dynamics, and other techniques to solve a mesoscopic model of electrokinetics. Our objective is to understand fundamental single and collective behaviour of charged droplets and particles at fluid/fluid interfaces.
