Development of application concepts of the Liquid-Organic-Hydrogen-Carrier (LOHC) technology for mobile applications using the example of rail vehicle technology

Researchers at HI ERN are working on an innovative project for rail transport, which will be presented during the lecture. This significant third-party funded project to research and develop Liquid-Organic-Hydrogen-Carrier (LOHC) technology for mobile use using rail transport as an example is financed by the Bavarian Ministry of Economic Affairs, Regional Development and Energy.

Speaker: Dr. Julian Kadar, Helmholtz Institute Erlangen-Nuremberg for Renewable Energy, Team Leader "Process Units for Chemical Hydrogen Storage".

Hydrogen on rail - possible applications and technologies

In Germany, around 60% of the rail network is not electrified, and in some cases long stretches have to be run without overhead lines. This is precisely where the hydrogen train offers advantages. There are various storage technologies available. The current state of the art is storage in the form of gas, but in the future other technologies may also offer further opportunities for the hydrogen train.

Speaker: Jochen Steinbauer, Siemens Mobility GmbH, Plattformleiter H2-Technologien für Regionalzüge

Lecture series #FAUinsights

In the lecture series "#FAUinsights: Big topics of the future intensively illuminated. Hydrogen meets business - research meets practice" of the Friedrich-Alexander-Universität Erlangen-Nürnberg (FAU) and the Energie Campus Nürnberg (EnCN), renowned experts from science and their cooperation partners from science and business discuss the latest developments from areas that are already shaping life today and will continue to change it.

"Hydrogen and applications" is the first major topic of #FAUinsights: Hydrogen technology brings challenges and opportunities for research and industry. In the summer semester 2023, #FAUinsights will therefore deal with the major future topic of hydrogen and show numerous application examples. How will this energy carrier revolutionize industry? Will the nature of mobility change fundamentally? And how can the Nuremberg Metropolitan Region establish itself as a world leader and take on a pioneering role?
