Record-Breaking Storage Facility for Green Hydrogen

Three questions to... Prof. Peter Wasserscheid about the planned storage facility at CHEMPARK Dormargen. The scientific expertise comes from HI ERN.

Erlangen, 12 March 2021 – The world’s largest facility for storing green hydrogen as liquid organic hydrogen carriers (LOHC) on an industrial scale is being built at CHEMPARK Dormagen. The state government of North Rhine-Westphalia is supporting the project with a total of € 9 million in funding. LOHC Industrial Solutions NRW GmbH, a subsidiary of the Erlangen-based company Hydrogenious LOHC Technologies, manages the project and will operate the facility. Covestro Deutschland AG is another partner from the world of industry. The scientific expertise comes from the Helmholtz Institute Erlangen-Nürnberg for Renewable Energy (HI ERN), a branch office of Forschungszentrum Jülich. They will receive € 2 million of the funding to conduct accompanying scientific studies. Prof. Peter Wasserscheid, director at HI ERN, has made a significant contribution to developing LOHC technology in recent years.
