Great honor: Three HI ERN researchers at the 74th Lindau Nobel Laureate Meeting

7 April 2025

Dr. Tatiana Priamushko, Joanna Przybysz and Nico Röttcher, three talented young researchers from the HI ERN, have been selected to take part in the coveted event. Six exciting days await them, during which they will have the opportunity to come into contact with numerous Nobel Prize winners and present their own research to a high-caliber audience.

The highest award that researchers can receive is probably the Nobel Prize. Every year, the coveted awards are presented in the disciplines of psychology, medicine, physics and chemistry. The award-winning scientists include the best of the best. It is therefore a great honor to be selected as a young scientist for the Nobel Laureate Meeting in Lindau.

Founded in 1951, the Lindau Nobel Laureate Meeting quickly became a globally recognized forum for intergenerational exchange between Nobel Laureates and young researchers. Each year, the committee invites the most suitable candidates to participate on the basis of a special application procedure. This year, Dr. Tatiana Priamushko, Joanna Przybysz and Nico Röttcher, three scientists from the Helmholtz Institute Erlangen-Nürnberg for Renewable Energy (HI ERN), an institute division of Forschungszentrum Jülich, are delighted to have been invited to Lindau.

The three researchers from the department Electrocatalysis have exciting days ahead of them at the end of June, during which they, together with around 600 other students, doctoral students and postdocs from all over the world, will not only be able to learn about the research and careers of more than 30 Nobel Prize winners, but also present their own research. This year's conference will focus on the discipline of chemistry.

Excellent young scientists in the field of electrocatalysis

The three selected participants illustrate the high-level of research in the field of electrocatalysis:

Dr. Tatiana Priamushko has been working as a postdoc on multimetallic compounds for the oxidation of alcohols since December 2021. Since February 2024, the chemist has been conducting research as a guest scientist in the "Electrochemical Energy Conversion" team headed by Dr. Serhiy Cherevko. Her research work is financed by the Alexander von Humboldt Foundation and focuses on creating a basis for the knowledge-based development of precious metal-free catalysts for efficient use in electrolysers - an important step towards economical and sustainable energy generation and conversion.

Joanna Przybysz is also a member of the "Electrochemical Energy Conversion" team led by Serhiy Cherevko. The PhD student works on high-throughput and autonomous workflows in electrocatalysis. Since joining the team in January 2024, she has focused on developing best practices for accelerating research and involving machine learning algorithms to guide catalyst optimization efforts. Her work aims to aid the search for optimal materials for green hydrogen production, ultimately contributing to faster advancements in sustainable energy technologies.

Nico Röttcher is currently pursuing his PhD at HI ERN, where he is investigating the degradation of catalysts in water electrolysis. As a member of the "High-Throughput Electrocatalysis" team, led by Dominik Dworschak, his research focuses on designing innovative model systems that enable real-time detection of dissolved catalyst species at industrially relevant current densities. By doing so, the suitability of novel materials for the use in electrolyzers can be assessed at an early stage, accelerating the development of efficient and long-lasting catalyst materials for the production of green hydrogen.

Lindau Nobel Laureate Meeting

The Lindau Nobel Laureate Meeting has been organized by the Board of Trustees and the Lindau Nobel Laureate Foundation since 1951. The event promotes the exchange between young scientists and renowned scientists who have been awarded the Nobel Prize. During the six-day event, both Nobel Prize winners and young scientists have the opportunity to present their research. The aim of the conference is networking, inspiration and the "exchange of generations, cultures and disciplines".
