Prof. Gabriel da Silva receives CAPES-Humboldt Research Fellowship
6 August 2025

Through the CAPES-Humboldt Research Fellowships for postdoctoral researchers and experienced researchers, the Alexander von Humboldt Foundation and the Brazilian agency Capes (Coordenação de Aperfeiçoamento de Pessoal de Nível Superior) enable exceptionally qualified researchers from all disciplines in Brazil to conduct research in Germany.
Professor Gabriel da Silva has now been awarded the coveted fellowship. Currently a visiting professor at HI ERN, he is working closely with Dr. Serhiy Cherevko's group on research into various electrochemical systems. He focuses on catalysts for the oxygen evolution reaction (OER), particularly those used in alkaline electrolysers. The goal is to identify stability and performance improvements relevant to real-world applications. He will begin the fellowship in September of this year.
Da Silva received his Ph.D. in chemistry from the University of São Paulo in Brazil. He is currently a professor at the Federal University of Viçosa in Brazil. There, he coordinates research projects on electrocatalysis and supervises students and graduates. His research focuses on electrocatalysis, the oxygen evolution reaction (OER), the mechanisms of catalyst degradation, and dynamic stability under various operating conditions.
