Logistics
The Hotel Bayerischer Hof (Schuhstraße 31, 91052 Erlangen) is a nice hotel around the corner from the Erlangen train station. It takes ca. 18 minutes on Bus 287 to get from the hotel to the institute.
The Holiday Inn - the Niu, Cure Erlangen (Paul-Gossen-Strasse 75, 91052 Erlangen) is a good alternative. It takes 8 min by train or 13 min by bus to get from the Erlangen Hbf (main station) to the hotel, and ca. 14 min on Bus 280 to get from the hotel to the institute.
Buying tickets: Germany‘s integrated public transportation mobile app is the DB Navigator. We recommend you download this app using the Google Play link provided. You can use it to check train times and to buy your train and bus tickets. If you set up your account and link your credit card (or Google Pay, etc.) beforehand, this makes it very fast and easy to buy tickets on-the-go. Alternatively you can buy your tickets at machines or in person at the train station.
From Munich airport to Erlangen Hbf (main station): Take the S-Bahn from Munich Airport (departing approximately every 20 min) to Munich Hbf. From there, the ICE offers the fastest connection, while RE regional trains are a slower but more budget-friendly option. Some trains go directly to Erlangen, but most require a change in Nuremberg.
From Frankfurt Airport: Similar to the Munich route, however, Frankfurt sometimes offers direct connection from the Airport to Erlangen.
From Nuremberg airport: Take Bus 30, which provides a direct connection to Erlangen city center that takes about 20 min.
From Erlangen Hbf/hotel to the institute: Please refer to the Accommodation section for transport suggestions from the respective hotels. The closest bus stops to the institute are Erlangen Süd and Erlangen Stettinger Str. Below are screenshots showing how to buy bus tickets to the institute from Erlangen main station using the DB app. The ticket option indicated in red in the last panel is a single, one-way ticket. An alternative is the TagesTicket Solo further down, which allows you to ride the buses in/around Erlangen all day.
